Good riddance.
Don’t worry about the government. They’re doing us a favor shutting down.
The United States federal government over the centuries has brought us the genocide of the Indians, institutionalized slavery, not to mention being the single most lethal organization in human history — count up the U.S. military’s lethality with the nuclear bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the bombing of Laos and Cambodia, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Consider the disruption to people’s lives during the CIA’s dirty war in Latin America and elsewhere in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Consider COINTELPRO and the domestic dirty war of McCarthyism and against the Black Panther Party. The FBI even snooped after Martin Luther King!
What would happen if the federal government disbanded? Perhaps they would be doing America a big favor. I do not know what would take its place, maybe something chaotic, maybe something worse. But we will never have a chance at something better than today’s pablum if we don’t consider the possibilities!
